ALL ABOUT WHITNEY LAKE ( commonly called "Lake Whitney").

The lake was originally authorized by Congress in 1941. However, when the U.S. became involved in World War II, the funding was taken away because allresources were needed for the war effort and it was again

given the go ahead by congress in 1944 when they passed the Flood Control Act. The primary purpose of the lake was and remains today to be flood control, but it also provides much more with water conservation and the production of hydroelectric power.

The Whitney Dam construction began in May 1947 and was completed in December 1951. Construction of the powerhouse began in April 1951 and was completed in June 1953.  The construction cost of the dam was $41,880,000 and the cost of the powerhouse was $2,208,354.

Lake Whitney was formed in the 1950's, when the damwas constructed on the Brazos River. The river was named "Rio de los Brazos de Dios" by early Spanish explorers, which means "The River of the Arms of God". Located at thetop of Hill Country, just slightly over an hour from the DFW city centre, Lake Whitney is the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy the outdoors - boating -  fishing or just the water makes a day on Whitney a day to not only relax but enjoy.

The beautiful outdoors surrounding Whitney offers the stunning scenery of the lake and the Whitney Dam offering so many activities that you are able to pursue.  Were always looking to share your stories we love to tell others that you heard it first on Lake Whitney Views we have the perfect opportunity to have your company spread the word about whats in the area.  Advertising is essential in making sure people that not only visit but live here in Whitney get to know whats available.
